Federico Chiesa Federico Chiesa

Liverpool have ‘made contact today’ with Juventus and are ‘exploring conditions of the deal’ for Federico Chiesa, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Chiesa was once linked with £100m+ moves to the Premier League, having shone for Italy at Euro 2020, but is now thought to be available for around just £12m, with Juventus desperate to get rid of him.

Liverpool have known since the start of this month about the availability of Federico Chiesa as new Juventus head coach Thiago Motta has consistently made their transfer stance clear. The Italy international trained individually after returning for pre-season and did not play in any of their friendlies.

After acknowledging before their first game that Chiesa is “part of Juventus at this moment, and then we’ll see.” Juventus Coach has now cleared his stance on Federico Chiesa,

“Chiesa is out for transfer market reasons, as are both him and the others who stayed at home.”

Chiesa, who has made 131 appearances for Juventus, was offered a new deal before the end of last season but is yet to put pen to paper on fresh terms.

The Italian's contract runs out next year with the possibility of Juventus losing him on a free, as the club are eager for the 26-year-old to make a decision.

Barcelona Interest

FC Barcelona and Juventus FC had reached an agreement over the transfer of Federico Chiesa, who had agreed to join the Catalans as well. That was the word from the Italian media, who said the deal could become official on Wednesday or Thursday - provided that Barça could clear enough space on their wage bill.

That last sentence is what ultimately has killed the deal, according to Spanish media. While the transfer made sense to all parties - Juventus get money to sign Jadon Sancho and not lose Chiesa on a free transfer next year, and Barcelona get a winger on the cheap - it seemingly has been ruled out.

At the moment, Barcelona has not yet formally registered Dani Olmo after signing him from RB Leipzig. The Catalans are working on deals to make sure he plays the next match after not being available for the first two games in La Liga this season.
