Southampton FC has finalized a deal with Arsenal for goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, valued at up to £25 million.

The 26-year-old Ramsdale is anticipated to complete his transfer ahead of the imminent transfer deadline on Friday. Although Arsenal initially rejected Southampton’s loan offer, the South Coast club has now come back with a permanent deal worth £18 million, potentially rising to £25 million with add-ons.
Previously, Wolverhampton Wanderers had expressed interest in acquiring Ramsdale. Nevertheless, they opted out of negotiations due to the perceived high costs associated with the transfer.

Ramsdale has found himself as a backup to David Raya at the Emirates Stadium, significantly limiting his playtime this season.
Last season was a standout for Ramsdale, as he played every minute of Arsenal’s league matches during their charge to a second-place finish. Unfortunately, he lost this starting position to Raya, who was brought in on loan from Brentford.

Having joined Arsenal from Sheffield United in 2021 for £24 million, Ramsdale has made 78 appearances in the Premier League. The former Bournemouth goalkeeper now joins a Southampton squad that has suffered two consecutive defeats in their return to the top flight.

The Saints have struggled against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, both resulting in narrow 1-0 losses, with Alex McCarthy starting as the goalkeeper.
Ramsdale, who has earned five caps for the England national team, last played for his country in a match against Iceland in June, shortly before the European Championship.

Southampton is set to face Brentford away tomorrow. This match will mark Ramsdale’s first potential appearance for the club as they seek to turn their early-season struggles around

Arsenal has identified Espanyol’s  23-year-old Joan Garcia as their potential replacement. Although Liverpool has also shown interest in the former Spain Under-21 star, Arsenal seems to have a clear path to sign him. Garcia was outstanding for Espanyol last season as they won promotion back to La Liga. It is believed that he has a release clause of around £21.4 million, but Arsenal has reportedly agreed to a fee closer to £25 million.
