After protracted talks between Chelsea and Napoli, the Romelu Lukaku deal has finally reached a breakthrough. According to a recent update from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea has agreed to a deal with the Italian side.
Lukaku, who had already been frozen out of Chelsea’s team, will depart the club after all paperwork has been signed. This comes after previous reports stating that Chelsea and Napoli were working on finalizing the Lukaku deal even before finding a solution to sell Victor Osimhen.
At the start of the Transfer Window, Osimhen was linked with a move to the Blues, with reports stating that the deal would affect Lukaku’s potential move to Napoli. However, the Belgian is just a step away from moving to Napoli, while Victor Osimhen’s future remains uncertain. Last week, Chelsea also signed Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid, which could impact their perusal to sign Victor Osimhen.
Time at Chelsea
Romelu Lukaku had two spells at Chelsea. He was at Chelsea between 2011 to 2014.
He returned to Stamford Bridge in 2021 for a second spell with Chelsea, a decade after he originally joined the Blues.
Lukaku’s return to Chelsea quickly turned out to be a catastrophic disappointment. Chelsea supporters expected the Belgian to remedy their infamous ‘number nine curse,’ but he only worsened it.
Since his big-money arrival in 2021, Lukaku only scored eight goals in the league and two in the Champions League. Following a Scudetto-winning campaign in which he registered 40 goal contributions in 44 games, the Belgian’s woeful record in front of goal for the Blues was universally underwhelming. However, the disappointment doesn’t end there.
He sent the Chelsea fan base into pandemonium after an infamous interview with Sky Sports during the 2021/22 season. Despite his recent transfer to Chelsea, the Belgian expressed his regret about leaving Inter and desire to return sooner than expected. Consequently, many Blues supporters viewed his messages as a lack of loyalty, and the ensuing controversy continued to burn bridges between Chelsea and the Belgian striker.
Lukaku Returns to Italy
Seriea is no new place for Romelu Lukaku; after previously impressing Inter Milan and AS Roma, Lukaku is now going to wear the colors of Napoli and play under the coaching of Antonio Conte again.
Lukaku Scored 64 goals in 95 games for Inter Milan when Antonio was managing the club. Their partnership is said to be one of the best player-coach partnerships in the Series. But the main question arises will this duo still have it?
